TIDES

Tides from the Cook Inlet influence the Lower River up to about river mile 12. Tides are large, and the river level fluctuates several feet near the mouth of the river.

But it is not just the water flow that is influenced. The Salmon, having spent years in the salt chuck, are finely attuned to the influence of tides, and they do not forsake this tuning when they migrate up river.

It is well known that King Salmon, miles from the influence of tidal water flow, still become much more agressive at high slack tide and at low slack tide.
